On Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017, the Lacey Township Police Department conducted a Senior Scams and Identity Theft presentation for the residents residing at the Heritage Village at Seabreeze, located at 1031 Trenton Avenue North in Forked River.  Lacey Township Police Chief Michael DiBella, Captain Patrick Ganley and Lieutenant Paul Sullivan, Jr., were present. The primary presenter, Lieutenant Sullivan, discussed different types of frauds including but not limited to the international lotteries, IRS phone scams, electrical company phone scams, banking emails (phishing), and the more recent “Grandson phone calls” (where the caller acts as a grandchild and requests money to post bail for a bogus out-of-state DUI Arrest). Chief DiBella focused on Internet credit card fraud and preventative safety measures. Furthermore, during the presentation, both Chief DiBella and Captain Ganley served lunch to the residents.

The Lacey Township Police Department has been taking an active role in protecting our community from the large number of Senior Scams occurring across the nation. Any local community organization interested in having a presentation on scams may contact Lacey Police Chief Michael DiBella at 609-693-6636 ext. 2567.
