Breaking NewsDepartment News – The Lacey Township Committee voted to hire 4 new full-time police officers who will begin their training at the Ocean County Police Academy in Basic Class #96 beginning Thursday, April 18, 2013. The 4 new officers entering the academy are as follows:                                                                                                                         .

  • Michael Hein – Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology & Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Kean University)
  • Daniel Ricciardella – Associate’s Degree in Exercise Science (Ocean County College) & Paramedic Certification (Ocean County College)
  • Anthony Sarno – Bachelor’s Degree in Developmental Psychology (Moravian College) & completing a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Training and Development (Seton Hall University)
  • Scott Keefe – Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Kean University)

The hirings come after the loss of 9 full-time officers in the past 6 years. The new officers will graduate the police academy on September 19, 2013, then enter the department’s Field Training Program.

The Committee also voted to hire much needed part-time employees in the police department. The part-time Class II Special Law Enforcement Officers who were appointed are as follows:

  • Jesse Urban – Completing an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Ocean County College)
  • Travis Horton – Associate’s Degree in Business (Ocean County College)

The Class I Special Law Enforcement Officer appointed is as follows:

  • James Perotti – Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Ocean County College) & completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Rutger’s University).

The hiring of special law enforcement officers comes after the loss of 8 special officers over the past 6 years. The specials perform various duties including traffic control, park security, crowd control at community events, and much more.

The part-time Public Safety Telecommunicator (Dispatcher) hired is as follows:

  • Nicole Bowles – Associate’s Degree in Political Science (Ocean County College) & completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Juctice (Berkeley College).

The hiring of a dispatcher comes after the loss of 3 full-time dispatchers over the past 6 years.

The part-time employees will begin agency training in the upcoming week and will contribute to the efforts of the Lacey Township Police Department in the coming weeks.
